BACK TO A PARK - NOT A BAD DAY

I went back to a city park with D -  managed to find a buffalo nickel and 2 wheat pennies in the same hole - found 1 more wheat and clad.  D managed wheat pennies from the teens and twenties.  Spots are becoming harder to find - too many TH's around that I've run into and a lot more that don't say who they are.  It may be time to start knocking on doors - or travel.  I still hope to make a trip with K to New Hampshire - he had great luck there.

ON THE ROAD - STILL TRYING TO FIND SITES

J and I hit the road and tried some areas that I had found on some old maps.  The first location was over grown and a ton of woods - the locals have heard of the park we wanted to hunt but we will have to wait until the fall to get to it.  We hit the local school and only found clad.  We tried a couple of other areas and J found a couple of wheat pennies and I found just one.  We then tried another park I had found but it was right smack in the middle of town and we just weren't sure if we could hunt it.  We came upon a couple of more sites - one looked too new and the other had a concert going on so we decided to call it quits.  Even on the road it's still hard to find a good place to detect.  My take for the day was a wheat penny and about 2 bucks in clad.  I still have to clean the coins before I get some pics.

MUCH BETTER DAY

I met up with J again and he had a few places in mind.  We checked the first couple which were schools but they didn't look promising so we went to a park.  Just as we got there a cop drove by and we asked about detecting and he said it wouldn't be a problem so away we went.  The park is in the woods so I hit the paths - found some clad then got a nice reading - turned out to be a barber dime - my second this year.  That was the only old coin between the two of us.  Will have to go back once fall comes - want to hunt outside the paths.

SATURDAY WAS A SLOW SLOW DAY EXCEPT FOR ....

I met up with J and we headed to a park that was around in a 1875 map.  Wasn't a big park but had history to it so we gave it a shot.  About 20 minutes into the hunt my friend D calls and I said for him to meet us there - he had hunted this park before but didn't find anything.  Before D got there J and I hunted an area close to a church across the street.  So D arrived, chatted for a few then went back to detecting.  Well about 15 minutes later I can see and hear D getting excited.  He said he had just found a seated liberty dime.  Both J and I missed it but D found it.  So that gave us a little more incentive to do some serious hunting - but to no avail.  At least someone found something good out of the park - tons of junk and little coins.  Good for D.  We then hunted another park with the same kind of history - this time nothing for all of us and we hit the local fire dept. and community center finding nothing.  My haul for the day was about 10 coins - J not much better and D came up the big winner.  Will post my terrific findings later, if I get out today I hopefully can add something good.

QUICK HUNT AFTER WORK

Meet a couple of friends after work and we hit my hot spot.  My friend T was the big winner finding 2 silver quarters while J and I found wheats and clad.   Hopefully I have better luck this weekend.  My friend K just got back from New Hampshire and he had some fantastic finds - a morgan dollar, 2 cent coin, seated liberty, some Indian head pennies and a ton of clad.  We plan to go there some time - can't wait.  Will post my findings later - not much to show.

WEEKEND HUNTS - SILVER SLUMP OVER

Will up date findings for Thursday and post weekend hunts.   I did manage 5 wheat pennies Thursday with T - it was just one of those days - the silver was not to be found.  And today hunting same area I find 2 mercury dimes and 3 wheat pennies.  What a difference a day makes.

Saturday I met up with a new hunter - J, - I went to his house and he drove around his neck of the woods.  We stopped at a school and saw someone outside so I approached him to ask how old the school was.  After a brief conversation he let us hunt his land where 2 old house use to stand.  But no luck finding anything - then we got permission to hunt an old ball field owned by the fire dept.  Found lots of clad but nothing old.  We then hit another school - again clad and then my hot spot - J found a rosie and again I was skunked of silver.

This morning I was determined to make up for the silver slump so back to the hot spot.  And I did - manage to find 2 mercury dimes and some wheat pennies.  Only hunted for a short time as it began to rain and another hunter D called me about a spot where he found a shield nickel, 2 buffalo's and 2 Indians included an 1879. So I met up with him but we managed only clad.  The ground is very dry so we will wait until it rains and try it again.

BROKE SILVER RUN

Went back to my hot spot and met T there.  This is my first real hunt that I did not find a silver coin.  I hunted a couple of hours - just some wheats and clad.  T found no silver either.  I hope the spot isn't drying up.  There is a field yet that needs to be detected - an old ball diamond use to be there with a wooded back stop.  Can't wait to try that in the fall. Will post findings later.
