Tried to give it a go

Went to play baseball with my son at his old school and then hunted for about 20 minutes and found 77 cents - 3q and 2 pennies. Hope to get some hunting done this weekend.

Ground Balance

What is Ground Balancing?
The amount of minerals in the soil varies from location to location. Sometimes the composition of minerals change within a small amount of area. Other locations, the mineral composition in the soil will be fairly consistent over a large area. The type of  minerals contained in the soil will also vary according to location. For instance, one of the more common minerals present in soil is iron, and some areas of the country have high concentrations present.
Without some method of "ground balancing", the metal detector would be detecting all the minerals present in the soil, therefore not seeing through them, an thus, small or deeper targets would not override the signals produced by the minerals. In extremely mineralized soil, the metal detector would hardly be able to detect a target laying on the surface of the soil.
Ground balancing the detector is simply, the term used to describe the function of adjusting the metal detector to ignore the minerals in the soil so that they are not detected by the metal detector.

Stopped by the rain

I tried to give it a go yesterday, but had to call it quits because of the rain. I got about 20 to 30 minutes in and I found wheat penny #9 at a park and a ring. I will have to hit this park again. My clad total was 1-d, 4-n and 15 pennies. A short hunt but at least I got a wheat penny.

Hunting called due to rain

It was a rainy and cold day yesterday just one of those days where I wanted to go hunting but if I didn't there's always tomorrow - just a lazy day. Hope this week is better weather wise - today will be a wash out as my son has a ball game plus I'm still on days.  Happy hunting  JB

Back to my favorite school

Well, I went back to my son's old school, no silver but did manage a wheat penny 1952 - plus some clad and the usual junk. I passed my total for wheat penny finds from last year  - 7.   So far I have found 2 silver coins and 4 wheat pennies there. There has to be more - just need to find it. The score yesterday was 2-q, 4-d, 2-n, 4 pennies.  Don't know about getting out today - raining hard so I will have to play the waiting game.  Saw Ron White last night - he was funny and a little more raw in person.
