Best day ever - 2 new firsts

Started the day at the beach - not much there only about a buck in clad and some cheap earrings. Then I went to a school where I started hunting a couple of weeks ago. I found 3 wheat pennies then I found my first buffalo nickel - 1924. I left - took my kids to a field day then came back. Started with another wheat then I found my first V nickel 1899. Found another wheat then called it a day. It also was my best wheat day with 5. Yesterday I found 3 wheats and a silver ring. So my take the last two days has been 8 wheats, 1 V nickel, 1 buffalo nickel and a silver ring. Got to keep hitting this spot. My next find I hope is a silver coin.

Friday hunt - 3 wheats and silver ring

I went to the current school I am hunting and had made up for my 2 days of finding just about nothing. I manage to find 3 wheat pennies and a silver ring along with a buck 55 in clad  I have found 4 wheat pennies total here in 2 totally different areas. So I'm hoping that silver coins are in the mix somewhere.

Last couple of hunts

The week started off with and bang and ended with a whimper. From finding dollars to only finding a total of about 11 cents and a key. One nickel was a 1957 but other than that - nothing.  Today I head to Cortland to see the Jets (not my team) practice cause the daughter wants to go.  I will look for some spots there to hunt and see what I get. Hopefully I find something.

Lincoln cent, Wheat

History: Victor D. Brenner designed this cent which was issued to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of Lincoln's birth. The designer's initials VDB appear on the reverse of a limited quantity of cents of 1909. The Lincoln type was the first cent to have the motto IN GOD WE TRUST. Owing to a shortage of copper during the critical year 1943, the treasury Department resorted to the use of zinc-coated steel for our cents. No bronze cents were officially issued in 1943, in error a few were struck though.
The same with the 1944 cents some, in error, were struck in steel. Minted 1909 to 1958.  I have found several wheat pennies though none of them of real value.

Barber Dime

History

Designed by Charles E. Barber,Chief Engraver of the Mint. He also designed the 25 and 50 cent pieces. His initial B is at the truncation of the neck. Barber dimes were minted between 1892-1916. The most valuable is the 1895o.  I am still looking for my first. I find a ton of dimes but this one would be super.

Morgan Dollar

History

Morgan silver dollarThe Morgan Dollar, or also known as the Liberty Head dollar, 1878 to 1921, was designed by George T. Morgan, hence the name.
In 1873 the government didn't make a provision for silver dollars. The gold dollar was common and the trade dollar was used for transactions with foreign governments.
The Bland Allison Act of 1878 restored silver dollars back into circulation.
Mr. Morgan was working in the London Mint when he designed the Morgan dollar. His initial M is found in the lower part of the neck.
Coinage of the silver dollar was stopped in 1904, when silver bullion ran out. 270 million silver dollars were melted in 1918 and in 1921 the mintage of silver dollars was resumed.
The mint mark is on the obverse underneath the wreath.
The Morgan Dollar weighs 26.73 grams and are 38.1mm in diameter. Made out of an alloy of 90% silver and 10% copper.  I would love to find one of these.

Sunday hunt

I started at the beach this morning finding very little clad and junk. I did manage a canadian quarter.  Then I hit some schools old and new and ending up finding over 4 bucks and 44 coins. I wanted to hit at least 50 but it's been raining and the threat of rain is still in the air. Next week.  The count is 13 american and one canadian quarter.

Saturday hunt

I started out at my favorite park - didn't find much - another cheap ring #24 and some clad. The grass was wet so I didn't hunt long. Then I went back to the current school I'm hunting and found more clad. The take for the day was 2-q, 9-d, 1- n and 13 pennies for a buck 58 - 25 coins. This coin total brings me over 1600 for the year.
