FIRST 1800'S COIN FOR THE YEAR

Well I finally got my first 1800's coin for the year - a large cent.  Wasn't expecting to find this where I did but I'll take it.  Also found some wheat pennies and clad.  My friend D found some silver.  I did manage a silver ring. So overall a pretty good day.  Had to quit because of the rain again.  Way too much this year.  Need to clean the rest of the coins and will post later.

IT'S RAINING AGAIN

What a month - too much rain and it 's been raining since yesterday afternoon.  The hot spot will be underwater again - going to have to find another area until it dries up a bit.  Way too muddy to dig and not fun.  Only good thing is that the ground hasn't become like cement.

BACK TO HOT SPOT - MORE SILVER

Went back to my hot spot and had another great hunt.  This time I found 4 silver coins though one is a Canadian dime but I'll take it.  I also found about 15 wheat pennies ( currently soaking).  My friend K found 4 mercs and 37 wheat pennies.  He kept hitting them in a 5 x 5 square - some as old as 1910.  We had a rain delay or we could have found more. The rain did make it muddy but well worth the hunt.  Will post pennies and clad later. Final count for the wheat pennies was 17 - my best day ever finding them.  Just found another wheat penny mixed with the clad so 18 is my total number.

HALF WAY POINT

Well it's just about the half way point for the year and I have done better and worse in some areas.  Lets start with the silver finds - almost tripled at this point  - 22 coins compared to 8 from last year and the wheat pennies I've almost doubled 96 to 51.   I'm still looking for my first 1800's coin for the year and a dollar coin.  My clad total is down and number of coins though we central new yorkers got a late start compared to last year.   But over all I say I'm having a good year especially with the silver - now if I can get some finds off my  "wish list" it would make the year even better.

HOT SPOT DELIVERS - DIME TRIFECTA

Wasn't expecting to get out this weekend because of my daughter's graduating high school with a party and the graduation itself.  I did manage to sneak out very early in the morning to my hot spot and hunt for a couple of hours.  Glad I did.  Saturday I made up for Thursday's shut out of silver find 2 dimes.

I tried it again this morning and boy am I ever glad.  I got my first ever dime trifecta in a couple of hours hunting.  This hot spot and "sweet spot" have paid off big time for me.  Had to quit because of the daughter's graduation but I WILL be back to hit it again.   I will post the rest of my findings, wheat pennies and clad later - need to get ready for the big event.  Just had to post my findings today.
