With the surprisingly nice weather I got a chance to hunt over the weekend. I tried the woods on Saturday - still too much snow but did find a wheat penny and on Sunday I tried an area where I found 3 large cents. Nothing old but did manage a couple of wheat pennies and clad. I think that was my last hunt of 2014 as the weather has turned colder. Over all not a bad year - now I need to do some research and try and find new spots and "travel" comes to mind. The spots here have been worked over pretty good so just need something "new".

SHORT CHRISTMAS HUNT
With the unexpected nice weather and day off I managed to get a quick hunt in the woods. No silver this time around but did find 4 wheat pennies and a nickel. Most of the woods still had snow but I found an area where it was ground. Saturday is supposed to be nice and I may be out again before the cold comes.

SHORT HUNT SUNDAY - LAST FOR YEAR?
I met up with D and we hit a city park - there was more snow on the ground than we thought but gave it a shot. All we found was clad. Both are detectors were going crazy - not sure what was causing the problem but it was difficult to hunt. So after a couple of hours we decided we had enough. D is on his way to California - at least he won't have snow - and he will do some gold detecting. Looks like this was the last hunt for the year.

MAY BE DONE FOR THE SEASON
I think the 2014 metal detecting season my be over. Got hit by a coastal storm and it's dumped about a foot of snow - don't think it will be melting anytime soon so I can call it a good year. I can be hopeful but not counting on the weather to cooperate. I will have the total count soon.

SHORT HUNT GETS SILVER
I went back into the woods Sunday for a short hunt - it was cold and managed to find a Rosie and 3 wheat pennies, a nickel and a beat up ring. Only stayed out for a couple of hours but worth it finding silver. Got to take advantage of any chance you get now since the snow will be on it's way along with the cold. Pics are coming

RAIN OUT
Though the temperature wasn't bad - the weather on the other had was not. Rain all day so no getting out. Now it's hit and miss about detecting - having no snow on the ground is a big plus - just hoping it stays that way for a while.

LIGHTNING DOESN'T STRIKE TWICE
I went back to the woods where I had my 4 silver day hoping to find some more. Well lightning didn't strike twice - I did manage a couple of wheat pennies but that was it. I didn't hunt long even though the weather was warmer - the snow was wet and heavy and it was hard to sweep since the snow kept sticking to the coil. I'll go back but went the snow is gone.

A 4 SILVER DAY
D and I decided to hit the park where he found his large cent last week. The snow is on the ground but it's not too deep so we tracked in the woods. Not many signals but when I got them - they were great. I found a walking half dollar, Washington quarter and 2 mercury dimes - the only coins I got tying my best total silver day. D had some clad and wheat pennies. We're going to hit this spot again but hopefully when some of the snow goes or spring. There's got to be more silver there.

A WET WEEKEND
Saturday was cold and D and I hit the woods. We went where I've found 3 large cents, and we tried a different area. Managed some wheat pennies and D found a large cent - in bad shape along with some wheat pennies. Then the rains came and ended that.
Sunday was a much warmer day and we tried some different woods - D found a war nickel and wheat pennies where I found a wheat and clad. Again the rains came but we were disappointed knowing the history of those woods not finding anything old.

WEEKEND HUNT
Saturday got off to a slow start - it was my birthday but the weather was cold in the morning. I finally met up with D around 10:30 and we tried the woods. Neither one of us had luck barely finding clad then I had to leave since the family was going to take me to lunch.
Sunday didn't fare much better. D and I hit the woods again, then tried some different woods then a school. I managed a wheat penny and clad and that was about it. Only good thing was that Sunday was a little warmer. Hopefully this coming weekend will be better if we can get out.

VETERANS DAY HUNT
Had the day off and I got to get out and do a little metal detecting. After my free breakfast at Denny's I hit the area where I had my century day. I did manage a mercury dime - wheat pennies and clad. It was a nice day to get out - temp in the 60's and didn't have to work and got silver. A nice veterans day.

UP NORTH
I went home this past weekend to see my brother and did very little detecting. Time just goes by quickly plus it was snowing and cold. I hunted the park by my hotel and did manage a beat up wheat penny and clad. I wanted to try a couple of different spots but it also got dark way too soon. There's always next year.

SHORT SUNDAY HUNT
My brother was still in town but I did manage a short hunt with D back to the woods and D had a great find - an IH penny and I found a wheat penny with a hole in it and some clad. Then I met up with my brother before he headed back home.

THE WEEKEND
D and I hit a wooded area and had some luck. The first area I found a mercury dime and buffalo nickel in the same hole along with some clad. We took a lunch break and then went to a different area and D found a mercury dime and then a shield nickel. This place is huge and we only hit a small portion of it - we'll be going back since we did find some silver and older coins.
Sunday it rained but I did managed to sneak out a bit - found only a clad dime again in the woods but different spot.

COLD SUNDAY
I did the solo thing on Sunday - D was smart and stayed where it was warm. I tried my century day spot and it was COLD. The wind was strong and went right thru you and even saw some flakes. I hunted for a couple of hours then called it a day. I did however managed to find over 3 bucks so not bad - just wish it was warmer. Nothing old - just clad.
