TRIED THE WOODS AGAIN

Tried the woods again with my co-worker who had the day off.  We didn't find much - he found 22 cents and I found 34 cents along with 2 wheat pennies and a 1939 nickel - my first nickel find there. Also found a key.   On the way out a woman stopped us - she also metal detects and has on and off for about 20 years but has been hunting more the last couple.  I told what I had found there so she gave it a shot after we left.  Hopefully she had better luck than we did.  It always good to see other people who enjoy the hobby.

BACK IN THE WOODS 3

Made my trip back in the woods earlier Sunday morning.  I started out across a creek to try a different area.  Most of the woods is hills and not much flat land.  There are many trails so I will have to take a walk and see what looks good to hunt.   I did find a lot of clad pennies and my first half dollar this year - a Kennedy which surprised me - it was right on the surface - some kid must of lost it.  I worked my way back to my "hot" area but only found a wheat penny.  The growth is getting thicker and now I wonder if I really hit 2 jackpots with the large cents since I can't find anything in between those coins and most of the silver coins I found dating from 1935 and the 40's and 50's.  My take was a buck 33.

We've been hunting the other side of the fields where there probably is more clad than older coins.  I did manage a 1941 wheat penny - we have found some wheats but I don't think there is silver there - I could be wrong.  My take was 83 cents.

I've been taking everyone's advice and been hitting the woods hard. Well today it paid off.  I had my best silver day - 3 coins - a 1945 mercury dime and found 2 quarters - 1941, 1944 in the same hole.  I also found another wheat penny - 1939.  That's 8 silver coins and I still have a lot of woods to cover. I may have about a week or 2 left with all the rain we've had the growth is starting to get deep.  Found 29 cents in clad - 2 dimes and nine pennies.

Since finding my second large copper I've been hitting the woods again before the bugs and growth take over.  I did manage to find 3 silver 2 - Rosie and a Washington quarter along with 4 wheat pennies. This has been a hot spot finding 5 silver coins and about 10 wheat pennies along with the coppers.   I hope the 2 coppers aren't flukes since I can't find anything in the gap of 1820 to 1935.
