WEEKEND UP NORTH
My friend Carol and I were headed to the local race track when we noticed some old foundations and a man and child on the land. We stopped and I asked the man if we could detect the property. He said no problem and that he also metal detects. He had just bought the land - over 20 acres. He said the foundations were the old barns and that the house was across the street and the foundation was still there. We hunted for a bit and I tried the house area but it was too thick - a good place to try in the spring. Then we hit the race track where I remembered as a kid that carnivals (in the late 60's) were held there. I asked a guy in the barn if we could hunt the inner section around the track and he said yes. The grass was very high but we found some low areas to hunt. I was finding pennies (memorial) about 6-7 inches down - the ground was mostly sand. I did manage to find wheat penny #132 and not much else. Besides the wheat the years of the coins were the 60's and 70's. Again this would a great place to hit in the spring when the tall grass is down.
Sunday we decided to try a school built in the 60's. The ground was full of junk - I manage to find a buck and we went to the area where I found my barber dime. No luck today just clad and zincolns. The total for the day was just over 2 bucks.

BACK FROM THE NORTH COUNTRY
Well I'm back from my trip to the north country - did hunt for 2 days - the weather wasn't bad for this time of year. Will tell of my adventures later when I can post pics of my finds. Let's just say it could have been better.

NOT ENOUGH TIME
With the time change and job change I haven't had time to get out and hunt. I will be heading back home this long weekend and do some detecting up north. Found a barber dime last year - hope I have the same luck.

BACK TO SCHOOL
I tried a new park on Saturday - the park had paths going through the woods so that's where I went. I was limited on time thankfully because I only found a penny for my efforts. The park had ball fields but they were being used.
SO today I went back to searching schools. I hit a school that had been good to me with the wheat pennies but not today - I did find over 3 bucks in clad so it kind of made up for a terrible Saturday. Then I did hit some woods when my son and I played some football at a local school. The 11 cents, Canadian penny and token are the most of found hunting the woods in awhile.

Last woods hunt
Monday I hunted in a area where I have found many older coins - there is a wooded area where I started first. Again I didn't find any coins but did come across a silver spoon. My first silver in awhile. Then I went back to my former hot spot finding only clad. My lunch hunts have stopped since changing my work hours and it looks like I will back to hunting just weekends.

SLOW WEEKEND
With the frost in the mornings - and with daylight coming later the bugs are now gone and getting started is now around mid morning where before I could get out very early. Saturday I got a late start and headed to a school where I've had luck with silver and wheat pennies - I wanted to try the surrounding woods since the ground was like a lake with the 2 days of rain. Nothing in the woods so I hit some high ground by the school. Still very wet I managed to find 61 cents. It was like walking on a sponge. Hopefully it will be better to hunt in a few weeks.
Sunday I hit a new park. Like the school the ground was full of puddles and very wet. I tried a bit around a ball field and found a buck 10 - 3 quarters in the same hole - then ventured into the woods. I found a path and hunted along it finding a dime and nothing else. Again this will be a good spot once it dries up a bit.
