HAPPY NEW YEAR

Happy New Year everyone.  Starting the New Year with a new blog background and my goals for 2012.  I had a great 2011 finding 25 silver coins, over 150 wheat pennies, 2 large cents, my first gold and some older nickels.  I fell short again of my $300 goal but that will be first on my list.  I would also like to find some more gold and more 1800 coins.  I think 20 silver and 100 wheat pennies should be in the ballpark.  This year I plan to travel more and start asking to hunt on private property.  Last years total's will be hard to beat but I'm going to give it my best shot hopefully starting today since the weather is supposed to be warm. 

FOUND FIRST PEACE DOLLAR..SORT OF....

Being the last day of 2011 and the weather so nice I decided to hunt the school where I last found my silver coins.  I was hunting around the tot lot when I got a quarter signal - dug it up and saw a big piece of silver and then noticed it was a peace dollar.  I was about ready to the happy dance until I saw the word "copy" on the coin.  Then I flipped the coin over and there was another head - a 2 headed peace dollar. Well, there went the happy dance so I just put in my pouch and went back to detecting.  Managed to find a wheat penny, a token and over 3 bucks in clad - some keys and I thought was a silver ring but it turned out to be junk.  Just wasn't my day.

LAST DAY OF 2011

Well it's December 31, 2011 and I'm hoping for one last day of hunting for the year.  I'm still just under $18 short of my $300 goal but closer than I was last year.   Just trying to think of an area that may have older coins but certainly will have clad.

SANTA DELIVERED A DAY LATE

It's the day after X-mas and I got a nice present - silver finally where I've been finding all the wheat pennies and not just one but 2 - a Rosie and a silver war nickel.  Plus another 4 wheats bringing my total to over 150 for the year.  I found over 2 bucks in clad and a flag.

QUICK HUNT YIELDS 2 WHEAT PENNIES

I did a quick hunt this morning before going to the in-laws for X-mas dinner.  I went to the school where I had found my first gold and lots of wheat pennies.  I found only 32 cents in clad and 2 wheat pennies.  I have yet to find any silver coins there but I may give it a try again tomorrow since the weather is supposed to be decent.

STILL SWINGING

The REAL  December weather seems to come on the weekends.  Saturday was a total cold out as the temperature never got above freezing.  Again during the week it's supposed to rain and be warmer.  

Today it was a little warmer so I went out to a school where I've had luck in the past.  Didn't find much in clad but did find wheat penny #146.  It may have been my last hunt but I'm still hoping for the next weekend.
