SHORT HUNT AT LOCAL SCHOOL

Went down the road to a local school and hunted about an hour.  Not lots of finds but getting out was the thing.  Did manage wheat penny #32 and just under .70 cents.  Starting to find more nickels which I like - the DFX discriminates them much better - not digging as many pull tabs.

QUICK MORNING HUNT BEFORE THE RAIN

I hit another school I've hunted in the past - again just to see what I could find using the DFX.  For a 2 hour hunt I didn't do badly - finding over 3 bucks in clad,  3 wheat pennies and a Kennedy half dollar. I hope I can get back out this afternoon.

VERY GOOD DAY WITH THE DFX

I wanted to see what the DFX could do at a school that's been hunted a lot.  Either I missed tons of coins or the DFX did a better job finding them or both.  I managed 6 wheat pennies and even 8 nickels - which I rarely find and over $3.50 in clad. I also found ring #2 - junk.  It's my best hunting day in a while.  Another hunter called me and wanted me to him in a location that had lots of history.  We had to use waders to cross the creek.  Not much for coins but I found my first civil war token - 1863.  I almost drowned coming back but I made it - get stuck in the mud if you don't watch it.

FIRST SILVER WITH DFX

I went back to the school this afternoon and found my first silver coin with my "new"  DFX.  Actually I hit a spot where I couldn't find the coin and tried it again.  I was a couple of inches off the target and dug about 6 inches down.  This time I found the coin, it came out a bit tarnished since the ground is very moist.  Didn't have a great coin total but I'll take silver anytime.

BEST DAY SO FAR WITH DFX

I tried a different school today - one that I've had luck with silver hoping to find maybe something deep.  Not yesterday but did find my first quarter and over a buck 40 when done.  Then kids started showing up for ball practice so I had to leave but I may try this school over the weekend.   I noticed too that now I'm behind my last year's totals - due mostly with the lack of lunch hunts.  Now I will have to go out after work more to make up for it.

DAY 2 WITH DFX

Went back to the same school as yesterday and did a little better in both the coin and pinpointing department.  Found 3 nickels - deep - 6-7 inches down and some deep pennies.  Also got a pull tab and piece of metal - practicing my technique - couldn't find one target.  I just need to keep getting out and try different areas - hopefully some that have more coins.

DFX ARRIVED TODAY

I got my DFX detector today.  I've been watching instruction videos so I got it together quick.  I tried it in the back yard then I hit a local school where I found 11 cents then had to quit because of the rain.  Got to get use to the pinpointing and sounds.  Now that it's here I will be practicing a lot with it so I can try my old areas and see what I missed.
