The first real storm of the winter season is upon us in Central NY, dropping about 7" of snow. Looks like this weekend is a "wash" and it's time to do some research. The long range forecast has the temps getting back into the 40's by the end of the month. Let's hope their right.

AGAIN ONLY ONE COIN BUT....
Went back to the park along with a couple of other hunters and had the same result - 1 coin but not a trophy coin - just clad today. This was a weekend I knew would not produce a lot of coins - was hoping for more older coins - maybe next time out.

FOUND ONLY ONE COIN BUT....
I found only 1 coin today but it was a big one outside a park. This park has a lot of history and I've hunted it several times before with no luck finding older coins. The gate was closed so I hunted the woods near the entrance. Glad I did - I found my first 1800's coin (hopefully a few more) for the year and my 3rd ever large cent copper. Took me by surprise and I don't mind at all about not finding clad. I also found a button and old nail. I will have to get back there now knowing that where's there is one - there should be another.

FIRST HUNT OF THE NEW YEAR
I decided to try the west side today and met up with another hunter and we hit a middle school first. Well the weather is nice but the ground was terrible - like walking on a wet sponge. So we hit a park just down the road. Better but not by much - did find over a buck there - no old coins. Did manage some keys. We tried another park but I was limited on time - ground was dryer but tons of metal.

HAPPY NEW YEAR
Happy New Year everyone. Starting the New Year with a new blog background and my goals for 2012. I had a great 2011 finding 25 silver coins, over 150 wheat pennies, 2 large cents, my first gold and some older nickels. I fell short again of my $300 goal but that will be first on my list. I would also like to find some more gold and more 1800 coins. I think 20 silver and 100 wheat pennies should be in the ballpark. This year I plan to travel more and start asking to hunt on private property. Last years total's will be hard to beat but I'm going to give it my best shot hopefully starting today since the weather is supposed to be warm.

FOUND FIRST PEACE DOLLAR..SORT OF....
Being the last day of 2011 and the weather so nice I decided to hunt the school where I last found my silver coins. I was hunting around the tot lot when I got a quarter signal - dug it up and saw a big piece of silver and then noticed it was a peace dollar. I was about ready to the happy dance until I saw the word "copy" on the coin. Then I flipped the coin over and there was another head - a 2 headed peace dollar. Well, there went the happy dance so I just put in my pouch and went back to detecting. Managed to find a wheat penny, a token and over 3 bucks in clad - some keys and I thought was a silver ring but it turned out to be junk. Just wasn't my day.
