The weather has been getting better but there is still a lot of snow on the ground. Plus I don't know how frozen the ground is so it's still a waiting game. Hopefully within the next couple of weeks I can venture out and give it a try.

SNOW AND COLD
Well January was not a bad month - not a lot of snow and did not get a thaw. You could still see some grass in spots - then February came. The snow and cold just keeps coming in waves. We are under another storm warning along with more frigid temperatures. I was hoping to get out soon but it looks like it will be a while. Good time to be indoors and do some research. I guess buying a snow blower is paying off now.

GOALS FOR 2015
2014 was good year - netting 30 silver coins and over 185
wheat pennies. It was a difficult year as well - mainly trying to find places to hunt. I did manage to find my first 1909 Lincoln penny - actually 2 of them and I had my best buffalo nickel totals (9) and finding an old coin spill. I also had 3 walking liberty half dollars and 4 large cents.
2015 looks like the way of traveling. I've talked to T and D and it looks like hitting the road is the game plan. I know no matter where we go other hunters have probably hit the areas but it's new ground to us. Research, talking to people and getting permission to hunt private property will be my best resource.
As for my wish list I'm still looking for a barber quarter, always the 1800's coins (had 7 last year), and jewelry. The ever popular seated or bust cap comes to mind. Again I was skunked with dollar coins so either old or clad would be nice.
I'm looking forward to the new year - hope to take advantage of my opportunities when ever I can get out or find a place to hunt and enjoy the great outdoors. I wish everyone a safe and successful hunting season.

LOUSY FLU
Yep I got the flu on New Year's day and been under the weather since. Of course I'm better but still a little tired but always better in time for work. Sunday was very warm day here - in the 50's and I couldn't take advantage of it to get my first hunt for the year.
I will list my goals for the year sometime this week - think I can cross some off from last year.

HAPPY NEW YEAR - FINAL TALLY FOR 2014
Happy new year everyone. The final numbers for the year 2014. Down was the silver and wheat count but did have some good scores. I had my best year for buffalo nickels finding 9 and 7 Indian head pennies along with 3 walking halves. I did find my first and second 1909 Lincoln pennies, my oldest coin - an 1808 large cent and an 1800's british penny. It's getting harder and harder to find spots to hunt - I think "on the road again" is going to become a theme song in 2015 - new to travel. I ended the year at least finding 2 wheat pennies. The weather is still not too cold so maybe an weekend hunt to start the new year is possible.

THE WEEKEND - LAST HUNT OF 2014
With the surprisingly nice weather I got a chance to hunt over the weekend. I tried the woods on Saturday - still too much snow but did find a wheat penny and on Sunday I tried an area where I found 3 large cents. Nothing old but did manage a couple of wheat pennies and clad. I think that was my last hunt of 2014 as the weather has turned colder. Over all not a bad year - now I need to do some research and try and find new spots and "travel" comes to mind. The spots here have been worked over pretty good so just need something "new".
