LABOR DAY HUNT

I did a quick early morning hunt on Labor day before the day turned hot.  I managed to find 3 wheat pennies and over a dollar in clad.  The ground was very dry and hard - did get some rain yesterday but I don't think enough to soften the ground.  Will be back at again this weekend - rain and cooler temps in the forecast - looking forward to that.

LAST COUPLE OF HUNTS - 1ST EVER CLASS RING

Last Sunday I went to a spot where I've had found silver before - no such luck that day just clad but over 3 bucks worth so not much to write about.
Yesterday T and I set out to find a special place and hopefully if it was a producing we would camp there in the woods -  we did find the spot but it wasn't what we had expected.  T had heard of foundations around this area but if they were there - they were on private land or very well hidden.  So we traveled and hit spots along the way.   I did manage to find my first ever class ring.  I think it 10K - will have to clean it up better to find out.  After that a token, clad and maybe 1 wheat penny - not sure it's pretty toasty.  UPDATE - class ring is 10k gold plated !!!!

WHEN YOUR HOT YOU'RE HOT

They say to keep going to the spots that are giving up the good stuff.   Well I went back to my "spot" where I found my 1800's barber dime - and I had another good day.   No 1800's coins but 2 more silver one's - a mercury dime and a standing liberty quarter.  I wasn't sure what the quarter was - with a lot of the older coins I've been finding,  I has hoping it was my first barber quarter - not quite - missed it by one year.  Oh well I'll still take the SLQ.    No clad on this hunt - not many coins found but they were all older.

GREAT WEEKEND WITH THE 13" DETECH ULTIMATE COIL

I had a great weekend hunt with my new detech ultimate coil again finding silver - this time deep and in a trashy area.   I went back to the spot where I had my second ever dime trifecta and the first coin I find for the day was a 1898 barber dime - my second ever 1800's silver coin.   I was finding wheat pennies about 8 to 9 inches down.   I had just found a wheat penny - rechecked the hole -  had another hit - got another silver dime - this time a merc 1918d.  I'm liking this coil - finding lots of stuff deep,  I will have to go back to some old spots and see what I missed.

BACK TO SCHOOL

I went back to "the school" where I had a 3 silver day - and I did manage to find another silver quarter along with a wheat penny.  Love that 13" detech coil - was finding some deep memorial pennies but the ground is dry.  Can't wait for some rain and give it another shot.
I met T later in the day and tried my first water hunt - a creek not far where T lives - he's had luck there finding wheat pennies but neither found anything.   So we hit "the school" but this time just clad.  T didn't find much either.   I will have try some more water hunts - having the water proof pin pointer was great.

FRIDAY/SATURDAY HUNTS

I tried my new 13" Detech Ultimate Coil in the park where I found the 4 large cents on Friday.  It's a good coil - I was finding metal deep but the ground is too dry and hard so not sure of coin depth.   I will have to go back after a soaking rain to really test it's depth.  Anyway I found clad.
Saturday I went into the woods - ground much easier to dig.  I did manage a couple of  silver Washington quarters ( both in the same hole) wheat and memorial pennies plus a flat button.  Hate to say this but looking forward to fall when I can really get in and hunt the woods.

GETTYSBURG

Took the family on our first vacation in 3 years and went to Gettysburg.  Lots of history there and a great place to visit.   If you are looking for a place to go I would recommend going here.  Seeing the battle fields and hearing what happened is better live than watching it on TV.  So much went on there and what would have happened if the union didn't win the war.   You get a greater respect for what both sides struggled through - and hearing about the 50,000 causalities of the 3 day battle is unreal.   I will be going back - to see more of the area and hear more of the history - 3 days isn't enough time to grasp the magnitude of Gettysburg.
I did meet the owner of Gettysburg electronics.  Don is very friendly and has been detecting for over 40 years.  He is very knowledgeable and has great prices on detectors and equipment.  I bought a few things from him and if you're every in Gettysburg stop in to see him. You'll be pleasantly surprised.
