GAVE IT A SHOT

I met T and we tried to do a hunt in the woods.  It wasn't fun - snow is about 4 inches deep we lose about 5 inches when we swing the detector.  Got some hits but it was just junk big enough to read.  I think the 2012 season is over unless it decides to warm up within the next week but that doesn't look likely.  Overall it was a good year for the older coins - not much on clad total.   Will post my goals for 2013 soon.

THE SNOW IS HERE

Well it had to come sometime but the snow has finally arrived.  Along with the wind it will be a lousy day and even a more lousy of a day to hunt.  But I will keep an eye out for an opening and hopefully get a chance to metal detect.  This could be the end of the hunts this year.

NOT 1800'S SILVER BUT IT'S BIG

I started out by trying a new spot which ended up not too promising.  Then I went to try another location then it started to rain.  So on my way home the rain had stopped and I was by a area I've hit before finding wheat pennies - figured why not.  Glad I did.  I found a wheat and a couple memorials which surprised me because they were a few inches down.  Then I got a high hit  - 88 or .50 cents - another piece of metal, but I had to dig it - then I saw a round silver thing then realized it was a coin.  My first walker half about 5 inches down.  Not sure of the date - it's really worn.  Then I really hit the area hard - I did manage a ring - heavy but no marking inside.  So it turned out to be a good hunt after all.

VERY QUIET DAY

I met T in the morning and we tried the woods where I found the token and IH.  Nothing doing yesterday - just a bunch of swinging and no hits.  T had leave so I tried some different woods - did find some clad .60 cents and junk.  I'm not keeping track of the clad total for the rest of the year - my goal of $300 is well short anyway.  I plan to keep hitting the woods and hopefully find some 1800 silver( I know it's out there, just got to find it) - now that I've got the taste of finding the older coins - I'll stick to the woods until the spring and when it gets too bad to hunt them  it's back to the schools and parks. I plan on some road trips too.

FOUND AN INDIAN

I went back to the spot where I found the token and possible 1700 coin hoping to for another old coin or silver.  No silver but did manage an Indian head penny - 1906.  A nice range of dates in this area.  Hope to go back and see what else is in the ground.

MAYBE A 1700 COIN??

                                                                   I think this is it

I went out into the woods Saturday to the same spot I found my 1837 token.  I was hoping for silver but no luck there but did find an interesting coin.  I wasn't sure what it was when I found it and it looked really worn.  I cleaned it when I got home and at first I thought it was a British coin.  But after some research on line I find it to be an Irish coin - I think a half penny by the pictures and the information on the coin.  I not sure how long these coins were made - I'm hoping just in the 1700's.  Would have love to have a date but  I'll have to settle for what it is.    I found a picture that looks like what I had found.
