GOING TO BE WARM BUT.....

For the next couple of days the weather is going to be spring like but - I think there is too much snow on the ground and not enough days for it to melt to do some detecting.  Plus this weekend there is supposed to be another storm - maybe freezing rain along with snow or just snow and then back to the cold temperatures.  My first hunt of 2018 will probably have to wait.

SNOW COLD - COLD SNOW

What a difference a year makes.  Last year I had already found a silver dime.  This year we are under a wind chill and lake effect warning with a couple of more days to go.  Last year the ground did not freeze but I think it will be frozen by now since the temperatures have not been above 32 degrees for a couple of weeks.  Next week we will be out of the deep freeze but too much snow on the ground.  Looks like it's going to be a long winter.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

2018 - time is flying by.  Well here is my wish list for the new year.  Again that dreaded barber quarter tops the list.  I did have my best year finding barber dimes (4) in 2017 and hope to keep finding them in 2018.  As always a gold coin is up there along with a key date coins.  I got back on the scoreboard finding some large cents and getting my oldest American coin  - 1800 draped bust penny.  I had some luck with 1800's coins finding 7 of them.   I also found a 10k gold ring - 13 rings in all.   My wheat penny total improved finding well over a 100 and a bit better on the silver count.  I did do some travel and hunted some permissions which I plan to do more of this year. 
With the current weather the way it looks like I won't be out for some time so it's research and talk to people about getting permissions.  I'm hoping to get some of the bucket list coins and relics.  Hope everyone has a safe, prosperous hunting season in 2018.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Well I got out yesterday for a couple of hours braving the cold finding an Asian coin and 12 cents.  S was also there finding just clad.  At least we got out - I think it will be the last hunt for 2017 as a cold spell is coming this week.   Overall this was a good year and I hope 2018 will be even better.   I will make the wish list soon.

NO HUNTING THIS PAST WEEKEND - SEASON MAY BE OVER

With the past storm we had last Wednesday which dropped about 6 inches snow and the cold weather -  the detecting season for 2017 may be over.  But this week it's supposed to warm up some and this coming Saturday temps may hit 50 degrees - I may just try and sneak a day of detecting then.  It's also supposed to rain Saturday but hopefully later in the day.  If not, I had a good year and it's back to doing research and trying to get permissions for spring.  Keeping my fingers crossed.

NOTHING WARMS UP A COLD DAY LIKE SILVER

This past weekend was a cold one but instead of hot chocolate to warm you up - finding silver warms even better.  S and I met up with T and hit the park by T's house. My first dig was a barber dime then reality set in - finished with finding 3 wheat pennies and clad.  S found a canadian half dime and an Indian head penny plus wheats.  The wind was cold but we managed through.
Sunday the wind was brutal and much colder.  S and I had the same idea - we went later in the day and met a local park.  I did get a mercury dime and couple of wheat pennies - love finding that silver - that made the day.  S didn't have the silver touch Sunday.  Hopefully it's not over for detecting but it's close.  We'll have to wait and see.
