It was exactly summer but the weather was decent enough to get out and hunt. I hit the woods - one area where I've found some large cents, one new and where I've found my walking liberty. Needless to say I only found a penny - not worthy of recording. I think my spots are drying up - need to try some different areas - that's where the research comes in - but I need a good day since I will have to travel - not much area left to hunt here.

SATURDAY HUNT
We had unexpected warm weather yesterday - getting to almost 50 degrees so I took advantage of it. I hit a wooded area with some history and T met me there - found just some clad again - nothing old then T took me to a park next to his house - he has found lots of silver and he did again. I managed 3 wheat pennies - only 1 with a date and more clad. I hope to get some pictures - got a new computer so I hope the scanner works with it - I did find over a buck in clad and a dog tag.

SECOND HUNT
I got a chance to hunt yesterday morning - more of the snow is gone but still enough on the ground where I hunted the grassy areas. I tried the woods - managed to find only .50 cents in clad and a ton of cans. I keep finding the party spots - would like to find old forgotten spots but will need to do some research.

FIRST HUNT OF THE YEAR
The snow isn't gone but the temperature was right to get my first hunt of the year. Not much exciting - only found a wheat penny and just under a buck in clad, a key and some other stuff. But it felt good to swing the detector again - hopefully I can get back out tomorrow morning before the rains come. After this weekend it may be a while again since the temp is going to drop by mid-week.

A WEEKEND HUNT????
With the temperature being in the 40's this week, rain on Friday plus 50 degrees on the weekend, I may be able to get my first hunt in for the new year. Hopefully enough snow melts away - and the ground isn't rock hard - I will be out there swinging the detector. Keeping my fingers crossed.

ALREADY BEHIND
What a difference a year makes. By the first Saturday of Jan. 2012 - I had already found a silver coin, large cent copper and had 3 hunts in. This year I'm not even in the starting gate. It looks like I'll be doing a lot of research - which is good but - it will be a while before I can even think of getting out. At least there's the football playoffs - and trips to the library.

GOALS AND WISH LIST FOR 2013
2012 wasn't a good year for clad and money totals. I found about half of what I found the last 2 years in both. I did however have my best year for 1800's coins my best silver day finding 4.
I don't expect my clad and cash to increase this year as (1)it is getting harder to find spots that haven't been hunted, (2)I plan on doing more hunts in the woods and areas that may produce older coins and (3)the weather has to cooperate - last summer just got too hot and the ground to hard.
Still my goal this year is to find at least 2000 coins and about $150 in change(way down from the last couple of years) - over 100 wheat pennies and 25 silver coins. Plus do some traveling to find new spots.
On the wish list is of course is everyone's favorite - a seated liberty - I'm finding the right years with the pennies but would love to find some silver. Also a shield nickel which is in the same era. I've only found 1 barber silver - a dime so a quarter makes the list. I was fortunate enough to find a 2 cent piece so a 3 cent piece would be awesome. Gold is always on the list - any kind or shape.
I plan on doing a ton of research this winter since the snow looks like it's going to be on the ground for a while. Last year I was hunting in January but that's last year. By the way things are looking it probably won't be until March when I can swing the detector again - hopefully.
I hope everyone has a happy new year and achieves what goals they have set for themselves. Good luck and HH.
