COLD HUNT BUT WORTH IT - FIRST SILVER OF 2017

I got out today and braved the cold and hit the woods.  I found my first silver coin of 2017 - a barber dime and nothing else but it puts me on the scoreboard.   I'll take just the one coin - worth going out.  Maybe I should hunt more in the winter - might change my luck.

FIRST HUNT FOR THE YEAR YIELDS NOTHING

The weather has been decent lately and I'm getting over my cold, so I went out to a new park for me - trails in the woods and I got my first skunk of the year.   I had some nice hits which turned out to junk and a worn out dog tag.  Plus the coil on my AT pro started to chatter big time - think I may need a new one.   But I did get out and got to swing the detector which felt good and in January so I can't complain.   Maybe I can get out again this coming weekend.

THE NEW YEAR AHEAD - WISH LIST

2016 was a great year for me metal detecting.  Though my silver and wheat penny counts were down I was fortunate to find some bucket list coins that more than made up for the loss.   I joined the 1700's club by finding my first Spanish reale - 1781,  a barber half dollar - 1904 and a 3 cent coin - 1858. My streak of finding large cents ended although I did find 4 Indian head pennies - all in the 1800's.
I'm hoping to continue the streak of the bucket list coins in 2017.  Of course a gold coin is always on the list - and I'm still searching for my first barber quarter.  Any 1800's silver is welcomed along with the big ole coppers.
I do have some new places to try this spring so I'm hoping those spots will yield some nice finds.  I did some traveling last year and will again this year.  I'm looking forward to 2017 and I wish everyone a happy and safe new year.   HH

GOT OUT SUNDAY

I did manage to get out  for a brief moment Sunday hitting some woods.  Didn't find much - only a clad dime but felt good to get out and swing the detector.   May not be able to this weekend as they are calling for another winter storm.  I'll have to wait and see if the predictions are true.

SNOW AND MORE SNOW

Well we got the storm they had predicted - just got a lot more snow.  Was hoping to get only 3 to 5 inches but got over 2 feet.   The snow is melting but too much still on the ground to get out and hunt. Maybe next weekend - it's not going to snow plus it won't be as cold.
