JUST ONE OF THOSE DAYS

I met up with J and D and another hunter J we tried a school that has been around awhile.  The ground was mostly fill but J#1 did find a flat button.  Not finding much we tried along the erie canal but the grass was too high and a shut down factory but it has a blue state sign saying it was historical so we hit a park.  This park was at a lock along the canal and again nothing.  We hit a park D has hunted before and a guy riding his bike said we could hunt his house which was built back in the 1800's.  Nothing there and only a few of wheat pennies at the park. D and  J#2 found them and then J#2  had to go.  D had another spot in mind and J found a wheat.  Overall the four of us found little clad and just 5 wheat pennies.   The spots looked great but we just couldn't find anything.  Just one of those days.

SATURDAY HUNT YIELDS SILVER

I met up with D and we hunted a park with lots of history.  I've had luck at this park before finding some large cents in the woods.  We hit the park area first - D found a few wheat pennies along with clad and I found a Rosie along with clad.  We then tried the woods but found nothing.  It will have to be a fall project - just too much growth. My total -  5 dimes, 1 penny

BACK TO THE PARK

I met up with J yesterday - D was out of town and hit the same park as last week.  Nothing to speak about - 2 wheat pennies, clad and a beat up silver ring.  We are running out of spots to hunt - even doing research and finding old buildings doesn't matter since there are a lot of people that detect and have already hit these places before us.  Looks like it the woods and private property.  I will post pics as soon as I clean my coins.

TRIED SOME OLD SCHOOLS

I met up with J and D called when we were on our way to an old school - the school was around in the late 1800's and is in the same area with a newer building.  We didn't find much - most of the ground was fill but I did manage a flat button.  So we hit another school - managed a wheat penny there - not sure how old this school was and then hit another like the first one.  Just wheat pennies and plenty of clad.  It's getting harder to find places to hunt.  We're going to see which one of us has the charm and start knocking on doors.

QUICK HUNT AT HOT SPOT

I'm on vacation for the rest of the week - so I tried my hot spot this morning.  The only thing hot was the sun but I did manage to find 6 wheat pennies, a king george and a dime.  Hunted for about an hour - had enough and called it quits.

BACK TO A PARK - NOT A BAD DAY

I went back to a city park with D -  managed to find a buffalo nickel and 2 wheat pennies in the same hole - found 1 more wheat and clad.  D managed wheat pennies from the teens and twenties.  Spots are becoming harder to find - too many TH's around that I've run into and a lot more that don't say who they are.  It may be time to start knocking on doors - or travel.  I still hope to make a trip with K to New Hampshire - he had great luck there.

ON THE ROAD - STILL TRYING TO FIND SITES

J and I hit the road and tried some areas that I had found on some old maps.  The first location was over grown and a ton of woods - the locals have heard of the park we wanted to hunt but we will have to wait until the fall to get to it.  We hit the local school and only found clad.  We tried a couple of other areas and J found a couple of wheat pennies and I found just one.  We then tried another park I had found but it was right smack in the middle of town and we just weren't sure if we could hunt it.  We came upon a couple of more sites - one looked too new and the other had a concert going on so we decided to call it quits.  Even on the road it's still hard to find a good place to detect.  My take for the day was a wheat penny and about 2 bucks in clad.  I still have to clean the coins before I get some pics.
